Re: geek girls & dating

(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
In short: yes

I'm slightly overweight, pretty hideous without makeup, my hair is awful, no fashion sense - but because of my geekdom and general nerd superpowers I've scored dates. Like, a lot more than my regular, non-nerd (and generally prettier and more fashionable) friends.
I'm not sure if my standards are high or low... If I get hit on, I'm not just gonna say yes for the sake of it, or because I pity someone, and I refuse to be someone's sloppy seconds. But um, apparently I have this raw sexual energy or some shit.

My dates range from ugly to handsome, but that doesn't matter because when you're a nerd you just want a nerd, or at least someone who gets you. Get what I mean?

Unfortunately there are a lot more nerd guys out in the open than there are nerd girls, (I suspect many nerd girls hide their nerd selves because... reasons) so it might take a while before you find someone who's not creepy/fetishist/whatever.

Of course if you're bi like me, you're set for life. If the guys get too creepy you can just look for nerd girls instead. I have yet to meet a nerd girl I didn't get along with. I'd say 90% of the girls have been great vs 40% of the guys.

So. Y'know. Keep your options open.
