I wonder why asking someone to kill themselves is bad but wishing them a serious disease or an accident that will kill them is okay.

Neither is okay. However, saying them to kill themselves can (in some cases) actually trigger or convince people who are already struggling to actually hurt themselves - while "get a disease" is more impersonal, you don't really have control over what kind of diseases someone gets, but you can sort of drive them to suicidal thoughts.

I wouldn't say the latter is "okay", but when you wish a disease on someone it's not likely they'll get that disease. They might, but not because you wished it. But if you tell someone to commit suicide there's a chance they will. And it's possible the people saying it would be held responsible for their death, depending on local laws.
