I wish I could be surprised, but fandom entitlement is not a new or rare thing. I don't get the fuss either, tbh. Like you said, maybe they need it for motivatation or to know there's interest. Heaven forbid they need some encouragement. Plus, it isn't like the come out right and say it to their readers. The OP keeps it to themselves and just does it without anyone knowing. How horrible.

Ugh, fan entitlement. I was once on a chat where a fan had worked herself into a truly terrifying state of rage over a favorite writer pulling her fics from LJ and AO3. She said the writer had no right to do that. Well, I knew the author and also knew why she'd done it (she had received some harassing PMs on her existing fics and had said fuck it, enough), and actually, no, she totally DID have the right to do that ... just as entitled!fan had had every right to refrain from posting feedback on these wonderful stories when she had the chance (which, oddly enough, had been the case).

Sorry, this is totally OT, but the only thing that pisses me off more than writer entitlement is reader entitlement. Fanworks are a gift, not something anyone owes us.
