They may be referring to how she basically got buried in comics history; this is from a /co/ thread a few days ago,

"Because she was Roger Stern's pet character when he was writing Avengers, and when Mark Gruenwald (who was editing Avengers at the time, as well as writing Captain America) decided he didn't like the character, they got into a huge fight over it and Roger Stern got fired because he refused to drop her from the team.

Then Gruenwald hired multiple writers to take over the Avengers and write her as a massive fuck-up who eventually gets dropped from the team, kind of destroying her as a character and turning her into a joke for years to come.

Basically, Gruenwald destroyed her as a character because he though Captain America should be the leader of the Avengers instead. Something which was only made worse when they finally broke her back and everyone basically used her as the butt of the joke where every time she picked a new hero name, someone else stole it and used it so she had to change her name again.

She's damaged goods now, and will continue to be unless some writer who really loves her writes a tremendous story that makes us forget all the crap, but odds are that's never going to happen"

She is currently Spectrum and is currently co-leader of the Mighty Avengers with Luke Cage.

From the sounds of it, no? but I haven't read stuff from that era, though I want to. It honestly just sounds like a big fuck you to the writer by doing it to his favorite character, not necessarily because she's black. If you want, the thread talking about black Captain Marvel and things related to her is here http://archive.foolz.us/co/thread/63883231/#63884483 Grant it is is 4chan, though /co/, so read at your own risk, though there aren't /b/ or /pol/ levels of shit going on in the thread.

Man, I hate to hear that. I like Mark Gruenwald, and I like Captain America, but that comes off like a major case of pushing his character over the other Avengers. Kind of like a conflict of interest, almost.
