Book club thread!

Now taking recs for September! We have a lot of recs but we could definitely use a few more! I'd love to have 10-12 recs at least for each month; I think so far we have 6-8.

Also! Please give feedback on cool-down times for recs that don't make the cut! How long? Should tiebreaker losers be included? Feeeedback me, F!S! *nom nom*

I'd like to re-pitch The Emperor's Soul. Relatively short (it's a novella), but plenty to analyze and discuss. It won the Hugo for novellas a few years back, even. It's about a woman who forges items magically. She's captured by the government and forced to rebuild the emperor's soul, because after a failed assassination attempt he's in a coma.

For cooldown: at least two months for general recs, I'd say. Tiebreaker losers should automatically go into the poll for next month.
