I'd say it still helps to be pretty. My sister wears his nerdiness on her sleeve and men respond well to her, but she's very pretty (pretty face, average figure, very nice smile and big brown eyes). I'm less overt about my geeky interests and what I'd call pretty unattractive but until a few years ago, I still got a fair amount of attention from men, many of them being handsome.
