Re: Creator's Attitudes Toward Their Creations

I feel a certain closeness to my characters but as I see it, I don't spare things-even unpleasant things-from happening to them, because the things that happened to them a part of what makes them who they are. It would feel untrue to the character to not include them.

It would be like, if I were someone's character, writing me without all my disabilities or disorders. They aren't exactly pleasant sometimes, but they are part of what make me well ME. Without all of those things affecting my brain, I'd be someone different. Does that make sense?

It does to me. I am of the opinion that without my disability I'd probably be a jerk, so yes.

I think I'd just be an entirely different person altogether. Because I know me being no longer autistic would mean that my emotional and mental age would match my physical one , so I'd be more adult like. I also would have more interests in other things so I probably wouldn't think as much as I do about writing stuff.

My approach towards backgrounds is to add exactly what they need to make them who they are. Backgrounds are extremely important to me. In many cases it makes up a third to a half of the story! I draw my plot from what the characters want and need. Thinking of it that way makes plot building so much easier for me to understand.

That also makes sense to me, since I am one of those people who tends to build plots from characters (and, er, world) up.
