It's funny (not in a haha way, but in a weird way), whenever I find a place that says they're a "safe female space" in an otherwise male dominated fandom it eventually turns into that hot mess you just described. I think it has something to do with the numbers. Usually it's ok if it's fairly small, but as soon as it gets bigger that's when shit starts blowing up. And possibly admins that aren't use to having so much power and control. Either way, I'm glad the dust has settled down there for you. I can sympathize for when a place like that takes a turn for the worse.
