Re: genres you only enjoy in certain formats

Ohhhhhhh, after reading your post I realized same here.

I like romance to stay in it's own genre. If it's shoe-horned into those other genres you mentioned I get really annoyed. (But most of that might just be the way it's done/the particular characters rather than the concept itself)

This is especially true in anime. There's a nice plotty anime! Mystery, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc. Nope, let's take a break in the plot for the main character to be busy oggling the closest girl's underpants accidentally and falling for her. arhg.
