write it for yourself & for the art, but don't be "selfish" by keeping it away from others, or by wanting feedback!
I get the advice "writing it for yourself" so you won't be disappointed and keep writing what you personally enjoy, but let's not pretend that the reader is entitled to the writer's efforts in turn. they're the side who profits more and risks less.

I'm sure it's most often said with that "possibly" clause in mind, because it's coming from people who also hope to enjoy a writer's work.
if it's ONLY for the benefit of the author, then it would say "and then possibly sharing it with others for feedback (of appreciation andor criticism) after you let go of the need of validation"
