Ever had bad and good news on the same day, F!S?

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-07-28 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've come back from my trip today (and still sort of reluctant from reality). It's sort of a weird day, all in all, but also within about 15 minutes of each other I found out that one of my good friends got engaged, and one of my good friends lost his father. The two things are obviously unrelated, but it makes you think about life. F!S, ever had both good and bad news on the same day? Things that were completely opposed to each other? Tell/share/vent?

Just today; I bombed my second to last stats test (technically the computer put me at 6 points out of 22 I think but it translated to like 24% and eventually 42), but since our professor drops the lowest grade, technically I have to get over 6 points to pass because I am right on the barrier of a C, and anything lower would be failing and me forfeiting my GI Bill.

It's like stepping over a very low bar and still being worried.

Could you explain what a GI Bill is to an ignorant European?

It's basically "My father served in the military for twenty some odd years, including before 9/11, so the military paid for him (or anyone in his immediate family) to go to college for four years."

So technically it's his, but if I fail a class I have to pay them back the money D:

Oh, right - it's sort of awesome you get that. But I can see how that would make you even more nervous about tests.

Thank you :D there's much more I do know seeing as this is about nine chapters, so I will definitely do better!

I have no such stories, but wanted to join in your thoughts. That's very strange, what happened to you!

It's actually the second time this year. First time was even stranger - found out that someone I knew died and that I won a prize in a writing competition about an hour apart. That was a very emotional day.

I found out my brother's wife was pregnant a few weeks after my mother died. It was totally unexpected that they'd conceive at all. It wasn't the same day but given the life/death contrast, it fits right?

Yesterday I got the email saying my student loans/scholarship is accepted and my aunt went missing (as in they used The SeaKing helicopter and loads of people to look for her in the water)...

Turns out she is okay until I get my hands on her.

Wow, that's surprising. So she ended up okay, though?

Not in my life, but yes she should be okay, haven't talked to her. She is probably in a 48hour mandatory psychiatric hold right now.

Well, at least she's physically all right. Thank goodness.

That is quite a story (glad she's okay though).

My parents once called the cops that I was missing. I wasn't, but this was pre-cellphone era. What had happened is I had taken the wrong tram, and didn't know which one I needed to get back. Fearing I might take a wrong one again, my 12-year-old self decided to walk back (about 8 km) which obviously took a while. Funny bonus: it was raining, and I was wearing a burgundy shirt that let off color. When I got home, my mother thought I was covered in blood (yup, they went for the worst case scenario in their minds. They were not happy.

Wow, that's some serious news on both ends of the spectrum.

Uh, I have one that's sort of similar. The day I had my first "real" date with my ex, who I dated for a long time and I was REALLY excited about the date and it was also a lot of fun, was also the day I learned that my childhood best friend's father had died suddenly of a heart attack. :/

Also, please to make a post about your trip when you're less jetlagged and back at equilibrium? :3
