I certainly understand the joys of finding potential subtext and shipping things.

However, I do feel like the people who insist any close relationship MUST be romantic are missing a whole part of the human spectrum. The friend group I'm in is mostly very cuddly/physical, both same as opposite genders, and I feel if these people would see us they'd think it's one giant orgy.

i mean seriously, there IS other closeness than the romantic kind. that, and yes, different era's have different social mores.

It's true. Even with ships I ship, it annoys me when fans say "Oh, they couldn't possibly be friends, friends don't hug." I literally cuddle with my sister on the couch and finger comb her hair. Platonic affection is totally a thing that humans do.

Right! And I actually sort of feel sad that there's people who can't just enjoy that for what it is. I mean, sex and romantic love are awesome, but so it good friendship - and I feel it's sort of undervalued in our society compared to the first two.

Better acceptance of homosocial platonic relationships like this are something the asexual community would really like, too.
