I agree. I'm really not seeing the point of going through the effort of motion-capture for a dragon.
I was really excited to hear Cumberbatch was doing Smaug's voice...and then they did whatever it was they did to his voice and I was just like nope.

It's like they thought of every way they could to diminish the character and the actor.
