Following up on old secrets

New news or changed minds regarding secrets you posted in the past.

My secret involved suicide, so I'll post in a response.

TW: suicide

I posted a secret quite a while ago about how I'd stopped following an author who kept posting about how depressed she was and waiting for support to flow in. The posts had gotten more and more frequent, and she'd ignored everyone who urged her to get therapy, so I figured it wouldn't end well.

I checked on her a couple days ago, just out of curiosity. Now every time someone disagrees with her, she hints that she might kill herself. She's got most of her remaining followers wrapped around her pinky, doing everything they can to keep her happy. I'm glad I got out when I did.

I sort of hate when people use it as leverage or attention. It diminishes chances of people believing people who are genuinely suicidal.

This. It's difficult enough to take care of someone who is genuinely depressed and suicidal, even if they're a close friend or a family member. Using it in a manipulative way is just... ugh.

I don't even feel comfortable making that assumption, because I have known genuinely depressed and suicidal people who weren't above (or possibly, aware that they were) using it as a guilt trip of the "if you left, I'd kill myself" variety. So, when I do find out that someone was faking it for attention, it makes me go all "Hulk SMASH!"

Good for you. That sort of negativity and manipulation can bring anyone down.

That sounds horrible.

I had a secret a few years ago about how I liked the Coraline movie over the book because it was more fun with Wybie to work off of. I still like the movie more.

Uhh, I posted a Paul secret once. Looking back, I think I drew him too similar looking to Jimmy Olsen, lol
