Sims 2 talk

(Anonymous) 2014-07-29 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I got my free Sims 2: Ultimately edition. Open for Business is new to me, and I can't seem to figure out if there's ever a reason to go to the shopping district if I don't own a business. Like, I had one character visit a bakery, but it was clear to me if she could buy, like, just a muffin to enjoy or if I'd be buying the display case. Which wouldnt be very useful. Can someone more familiar fill me in?

Sorry OP, I have nothing for you, since I also got it and feel really lost; I've only ever played 3, and while there are a lot of familiar conecpts and gameplay mechanics with all the editions, I'm still confused, like apparently I can't choose what my main ambition/goal-in-life is nor can I figure out how going to other lots or where to find certain jobs are even when you load in all the other expansion parts of towns.

Yeah, your lifetime want is based on your aspiration, and I think maybe your personality, too. Sadly you can't pick it.

To go downtown, first you have to "add" downtown to hour neighborhood by clicking one of those buttons at the top when you're at that screen where you can pick what house you want to play. Once you've done that, when you're playing a house you either call a taxi or click on the SIM you're playing and choose walk to lot. Then you can either go to a number of ddowntown places, or any community lots that are in your base neighborhood.

Thanks; feel like I should just look up the wiki in order to really get into this one.

Transportation: Go to phone and call a taxi. You'll get the list of available public lots when the taxi shows up, along with an option to pick which family members go with you. Cars are clickable. Witches can click on self.

Jobs: As far as I know, search for jobs via the Newspaper (4 jobs per day) or Computer (5 jobs per day.) With all the expansion packs, it might take a while for a job to show up. Or, download a hack.

Rerolling lifetime wants: ReNuYuSenso Orb (Aspiration Reward, fairly cheap) or download a hack.

Oh, and Nannies and Butlers often suck.

Don't trust either with toddlers.

Why? I've always had reasonably attentive nannies.

Maybe nannies are ok. I just had a butler stand and twitch for six hours left alone with twin toddlers.

It's been a while since I played, but I think there are different sims that show up there, if you're looking to explore different friendship/marriage options. Other than that, I never really went there, except to work.

It's weird playing it after 3, isn't it? I'd forgotten that time resets when you go home from a community lot and I don't relish going around to other houses to maintain consistent aging. I ended up really liking the fact that in 3 I could ignore other households I didn't care about and they'd age and do their own things.

But, the only time I really went to the shooing district was to work (having a business was pretty fun, imo), socialize and buy specific things. I can't quite remember the mechanics of buying things, though! I need to play more.

I haaaaated that about Sims 3. And in general I wasn't a fan of watching my Sims run from home to their destinations. I just don't hate the load screen so much that I want to deal with the lag all that running around created. The only thing *do* wish for though, is that it would be simpler to go to neighboring community lots. It's like "I can see the bowling alley right there. It's next door. Oh, you have to call a cab and drive around the block? OK then."

Well, and I did like the Create-A-Sim part of Sims 3. But other than that, I kept it for about two weeks (using my sister's Origin account, so I had a few EPs too, not just the base game) before abandoning it and returning to Sims 2.

I hated that at first because it was so different, but I really enjoyed the open world concept after I got used to it. And, if you got a car or a bike, you didn't have to watch them run because they drove? Which was fun because you might see an interesting Sim on the sidewalk and decide to stop and talk. Also, in my game at least, they usually called a cab unless the place they were going was just around the corner.

Yeah, walking, driving, biking, taking the subway...it was all laggy for me. Maybe just my machine couldn't handle it.

I also just tried Bon Voyage on Sims 2. I will concede that Sims 3 has a better vacation pack.

Do you mean the map tags? Because I hated seeing all the Sims' tags "running" around the map and lagging the game. But then I got NRaas Controller mod and turned off the majority of those stupid map tags. My game ran much better. And with the Error Trap and other mods that fixed minor bugs Sims 3 was really nice to play.

The neighborhood aging took some time to get used to. My first playthrough I made 2 households. My plan was to get them together, but I didn't want them living together right away. I selected a home for Sim B and I couldn't have been in the world that long having the Sim select a job and stuff. I switched to Sim A and my Sim had already a steady relationship and was pregnant! I stopped planning my neighborhoods and just went with the flow, so I can see how some people could find it annoying.

you can turn it off in Sims 3 though?

Re: Sims 2 talk

(Anonymous) 2014-07-30 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Are you asking? Because I've heard that you can turn "story progression off" but I don't know if that's the same thing or if turns aging off entirely, which I don't necessarily want.

It's definitely going to be a transition since I played all of them (1-3) but have been playing 3 lately. There were things I liked about 2 and things I like about 3, but I think I will enjoy having all of the expansion packs since I never got them.

I never played Apartment life, so I'm curious to see what that is all about.

Can male Sims have babies in 3? I know they can with the Tombstone of Life and Death in 2. One of my Sims popped out three consecutive sets of twins. Still don't know how I managed that.

I've never tried for my male Sims to have babies in 3. In 2 you also had alien babies.

Pretty sure you need a mod for male pregnancy.

I mod the hell out of my Sims 3 game to allow for same-sex pregnancy, as well as other fun stuff. Try NRaas Master Controller. That's my fave (I also use Story Progression, Woohooer, and a bunch of other stuff from NRaas).

have a mate who's trying to install the same edition on windows 7. it downloaded through origin just find, but it freezes during installation. has anybody else had a similar issue and figured out how to fix it? quick googling didnt yield much, surprisingly.

Like the installation in Origin? Because I have windows 7 and it installed just fine.

Re: related

(Anonymous) 2014-07-30 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
no, you know like how it downloads in origin and then when you click on the game to start it for the first time, it actually installs? like you see the sims screen and it does the dumb music and takes forever installing everything. i think the origin download might be the .exe file or something. apparently that downloaded fine, but when the sims tries to install it freezes and crashes.
