if you say so, but youre one of many people here who seems to overlook widespread problems to pick on the ~dreaded tumblr kids

Are you done being a freaking white knight?

Maybe less people will "pick on" the tumblr kids if they were able to realize when they fucked up and take criticism from the people they try to speak over. But no, anytime someone criticizes them they react in the same way- death threats and claims that whatever's being mentioned never happens while their behaviors do exactly what is being complained about. They never learn or take responsibility for what they do. It's always someone out to get them.

are you done being melodramatic?

yeah i get that. never disagreed with you there. but consider that a lot of their frustration stems from actual oppressive behaviour directed at them. thats not an excuse, but its a reason nonetheless, and if youre going to criticise them for it, you should be criticising the people that provoke it too, because their behaviour is not any better whatsoever.

eta: to clarify, you already made a note to include them now, however late it was, but you keep like ??? arguing with me, and idk why

If you're done being so defensive.

I'm fucking sick to death of hearing, "oh it's because they're oppressed" I mentioned things like HARASSMENT AND ANON HATE, TELLING PEOPLE TO KILL THEMSELVES and you come up justifying this shit behavior with the same excuse that EVERYONE has heard. That shit doesn't EXCUSE it anymore.

"but you keep like ??? arguing with me, idk why "

*lol* Nice job trying to paint yourself as innocent. You even burst into a conversation I had with someone else to be all "BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I WAS SAYING!!11!" and do-surprise-more backtracking and justifying.

eta: i'd actually like to extend an apology to you because i didnt mean for this to turn into a circular argument. i probably should have stopped after hearing your explanation and seeing you werent really in the mood for the discussion. unfortunately a lot of times people who complain about certain topics have an underlying reason for that, but i shouldnt have assumed you would be the same, and i'm sorry if it seemed like i was unnecessarily hassling you, bc looking back at some of my replies i came off as awfully insistent, and needlessly so. i understand a lot of what makes you cringe, especially things like death threats because those are never okay, and i do see people get hounded for their opinions a lot. sometimes it gets dangerous, though i think the folks who engage in that kind of behaviour arent "sjw" types and im used to seeing them. but you explained above that you were talking specifically about a certain type of person and i should have paid more attention that instead of overanalysing your meaning.

Thank you.

I didn't mean to make it seem like I was targeting people who really were just venting. I tried to handpick a few situations that included unnecessary behavior. (on the 'block list' I probably should have just mentioned people making lists and encouraging people to spam them because I have no problem with encouraging people to block certain users but "spam these people" is counter-intuitive to "avoid dangerous people")

I'm sorry I got so impatient.

well reading back i dont really blame you for getting impatient. i shouldnt have taken out my general frustration on you since it was completely unwarranted. i didnt realise i sounded so pushy until i reread everything today.

am i supposed to care what you think about how im being? i dont expect anybody to care about what im saying either. it's very obviously not productive, though i was hoping maybe it would be, but nobody in this community knows how to keep their head on straight without taking everything so personally.

my replying to them has nothing to do with their own self control. if they dont want to be a part of a discussion then it's not my responsibility to stop on their behalf.

im not missing the point either, i get it completely. i just think it's kind of a fallacious point; i think most of what op is talking about is 1. not nearly as common as theyre making it out to be and 2. not something theyre interpreting properly. sending people death threats and obnoxious hate is one thing, and something i completely agree is not only cringeworthy but deeply dangerous. everything else is being taken completely out of context.

i didnt take it personally at all, because i dont say any of the things op was complaining about, nor did i find any of those things particularly tasteful. i just wasnt aware at the time that they apparently realised some of those sentiments are almost always jokes, and from there it turned into a discussion about joke posts vs real, true, dangerous sentiments from a multitude of perspectives. we obviously didnt agree. it happens. i dont care about your interpretation of it.

the thread is over anyway, sans you shitting yourself for no reason. i did no backtracking whatsoever. your inherent misunderstanding of the discussion doesnt speak for me. bye.

That might be because it's a site that most of us frequent and has serious issues with its userbase and design. If it were somewhere less concerned with social justice, we'd be hearing more about the less socially concerned parts of fandom.

Exactly. Hell I didn't have as much of a problem with it a few years ago. There was a time when I only heard stories and a few jokes about social justice warriors.

But now toxic SJ is everywhere and it's getting out of control .
