It would be, except that the white people from fake!England find the coloration of that particular race [milk pale skin, silver hair, purple eyes] as weird and as unusual as the darker skinned eastern nations do.

She's basically an Atlantean.

Not a white person as we know them.

Maybe in the books, but in the TV series she looks like a regular blonde white girl, so with scenes like this the visuals are just a little disturbing.

It doesn't matter. Fiction doesn't exist in a vacuum. She's white, and it reads as a really extreme white savior narrative.

Only if you don't know how to read. It's actually the opposite of that. It's a deconstruction of the white saviour narrative. Unless you're a hysterical SJW who has unthinking knee-jerk reactions.

It's not a deconstruction of the 'white savior' narrative. It's arguably a deconstruction of the idea of saviors in general - in line with the ongoing themes of the series as a whole - but that's not, I think, the same thing at all.

I don't think this is a fatal problem, to be clear, but the series does invoke the specific image of a white savior while it's trying to set up a somewhat different storyline, and it's perfectly reasonable for people to ask questions about that. It doesn't make them 'hysterical SJWs who have unthinking knee-jerk reactions' and I'm honestly getting really tired of that kind of rhetoric.

THANK YOU. I don't think getting creeped out by this is at all unreasonable or irrational.

In the books, perhaps (I gave up on book 3, I wouldn't know). But we all know the show is as subtle as a truck of bricks and the execution was super racist.

It should

This is putting an extremely positive spin on the situation, but arguing that white people with unusual hair/eye color aren't really white people is pretty much a non starter. Especially when the actress looks very much like a white woman, because she is one.

Hey everyone! How about a rousing game of spot the klan member.
I win!

yknow that the image of "Atlantean" was later an inspiration for nazi's aryan?

sci fi and fantasy is full of racism.
