I see the characters as many-faceted human beings. One of those facets is their race. It's a facet that's very relevant in the society we live in, that's been extremely important in the culture historically. Their race does not define their character, but it also can't be erased from who they are, and it's impossible to analyze a scene like this without taking it into account, when the scene plays into so many existing cultural images to do with race.

You cannot divorce anything from its history. We're defined by our history as much as by anything and while we can try to move on we can't just pretend that it never existed. That's what you're asking people to do. Dany isn't white woman number one but she is a white woman. Inescapably so.

We can definitely divorce things from history. By creating a fantasy world that has no connection to our history.

Why does this need to be difficult.
