While horrible, I've been to plenty of cons where I felt perfectly safe. Since most sexual assaults actually happen by someone you know, this really could happen anywhere. It happened to one girl out of thousands. Becoming a recluse out of fear is not the answer.

Pretty much confirms that guys at cons are this one guy out of 130,000 people who showed up at the con is nothing more than a creepy rapists and women shouldn't bother going to these events. At all. people should realize that there are creepers everywhere, and they're especially drawn to events with large numbers of people, so they should go and do what they want, but be wary of thieves/creepers, same as you would at any other large group event.

What's "funny" to me is that the only person they've arressted is the guy that supposedly drove up with the girl, going to show once again that "stranger danger" is a load of bullshit.
