Hoo boy. So, what happened here was that I was scrolling quickly on tumblr and was shocked by what I thought I saw (my brain mostly registered the sunglasses and the shape of the hair, really not a lack of exposure to different races but thank you to supportive anons). Then I was relieved when I looked closer and read the caption. Then I laughed at myself and thought it was terrible and decided to make it a secret. When I saw it here today and some of the responses I felt really shitty so I asked case and imgur to delete it. I guess some people thought it wasn't that bad and I shouldn't have deleted it? That's okay, but I regret making it.

It's okay, OP. People make mistakes and you get that it was embarrassing and something you'd rather not have done. If people still want to tear you to pieces after that... well, it's probably not the best use of their time, but whatever.

No, what OP will do is still make honest mistakes but clam up about it so no one calls them a horrible person. Good job, jerks.

We don't know if this will happen or not. Fortunately, doing better isn't dependent upon telling other people about your mistakes OR your successes, it's something you can do in private, for your own satisfaction.

I'm probably going to still mistake people for other people. So I don't really know what I have to "do better" on except for maybe waiting a while before I post an impulsive secret.

Well, I don't think I'm going to be scarred for life. I had my own reasons for being disgusted with myself that nobody's even mentioned. I was anxious earlier because of the first few comments but I'm pretty much over it at this point. Thanks, though.

No, you're fine, it happens. People mistake Niel Patrick Harris as the guy who played Francis on Malcolm in the Middle and vice versa, but because they're white, I guess that's different. People mistake strangers for people they know or celebrities, it's no different here.

Oh god, I feel so much better about his, knowing that this happens to other people, too. (I was SO sure that Francis was played by NPH for some time!)

You shouldn't regret making it - the people saying crap about you obviously have issues that have nothing to do with your secret. Anyone could have made the error.

Deleting was a total pussy move. Don't submit things if you can't handle a little heat on an anonymous fucking secret.
