What annoys me is that she has so little knowledge of the business she wants to be in. She wants to act, but doesn't know half the iconic movies and tv shows of the past forty years? She doesn't have to like them, but she should be studying them or at least aware of them.

This is what I find completely ridiculous. I can't help but think the writers just didn't think that through and wanted cheap laughs to further highlight the difference between the geeky guys and normal Penny. It just doesn't make any sense at all for Penny to know so little about movies and TV shows.
