Even in the second case, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Like, the worst you can say about someone doing that is that they're incorrect (if they're incorrect). There's not something morally wrong about being incorrect about canon. They're just wrong.

If someone is actually claiming that people who disagree with them about canon are bad human beings, then we can start to talk about it being unacceptable.
