You know, it's not an either/or situation between a quick-fix "he cuddled me and it was all better" and a long drawn-out "long recovery period." Some fics just end as soon as it's established the character is on the road to recovery and WILL eventually get better sometime in the future -- like, as soon as they get treated at a hospital and their injuries are no longer life-threatening, or as soon as they accept some traumatic experience and agree to get therapy for it, or something.

Oh, I know - I don't mind them when they end with a not-there-yet-but-will-get-there kind of thing, I'd just prefer the timing to be at least IMPLIED to be a realistic stretch of time.
