The Batman comics have some pretty good moments and arcs but it's definitely not a consistent thing for me and I hate how Batman keeps having to be edgier and edgier (because some writers are under the mistaken impression that gritty = good). If you like Batman the Animated series though, then you might want to check on the comic spin off if you haven't already (it's called The Batman Adventures). I really liked most of it and it definitely has a lighter feel than than most other comics at the time since it came out during a period where comics in general had a much darker and edgier tone than in previous decades.
