Andrew Lloyd Webber in general is often criticized as being opera lite, or for plagiarizing classical composers, etc.

Pretty much all this.

Still, I love "Phantom", since it was the first musical I loved back in 2001 (it even got me hooked to musicals in general) and even have fond memories of downloading most of the major songs from the London cast album via Napster.
