Why do the regular shippers have to add a disclaimer instead of everyone remembering that it's a minority who doesn't realize it's not canon?

Actually, why does everyone care so much if they do think it's canon? So they're wrong. Argue with them if you enjoy that sort of thing or let them bask in their wrongness. I don't see how it affects anyone else.

There isn't a good answer other then it's what happens when a few inform the opinion of the many. Ask a destiel shipper (vanilla version) how they are regarded because of the minority hypershippers. Never mind I'll tell you my experience. People started looking for other signs of crazy where there were none.

I'm sorry they've made things so frustrating. I still think the people looking for signs of crazy deserve some of the blame (not arguing with you; I've just noticed that people always seem to blame the minority way more than the ones making wrong assumptions).

Thanks for that. I got into Supernatural late and was blissfully unaware of where the snakepits were. It was an eye opening experience that was followed by a fast retreat.

Because it's like every situation where there's a vocal fringe minority ruining things for the majority: they are so loud and toxic and prone to shoving themselves in everywhere there might be a tangential connection to their obsession that to anyone outside the group itself, they look and sound like they are actually the majority.

Adding a disclaimer is the fandom equivalent of saying "dude, no, stop it, you're going overboard".
