Re: Wow!
(Anonymous) 2014-08-03 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah…that's the impression I got too. Mentioning "delicacies" and then describing how often they ate such delicacies as a child just reeks of "I'm more cultured than you are so why don't you go back where you belong and eat insects."
Of course, I think this was more a reaction to what the writer perceived to be the OP's moral superiority concerning eating brains and foie gras. People don't like to have their cultures criticized. That said, there's nothing inherently inferior about eating insects -- environmentally it's extremely sound, in fact.
I think a nerve just got hit by the secret.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-03 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)And of course there is nothing inferior about eating insects: I am not even sure why that idea should be inferred from my comment? I meant that some insects, (when fried) are considered delicious -in some cultures- and that the OP is unlikely to consider the cruelty inherent in killing insects to eat them? They also happen to be one of most nutritious and healthy proteins available, BTW and so are deemed a superior choice to strict vegan diets, apparently.
Yes, it seems as if more than one nerve was hit by this secret.
And that a bit of open-mindedness about other cultures would not come amiss, as you clearly understood.
Re: Wow!
I don't think you have to school OP and especially DA, who already mentioned it, on the topic of insect eating.
If you want to sound less patronizing, just give the info, don't address OP like this.
The calf brain memory itself was pretty interesting to me, although lyrically waxing about it when OP said they're disgusted by it? blah, rude.

Agreed, I really hope insect eating establishes itself even further!
yeah, everyone feels the need to justify/explain oneself on the topic. I just deleted my opinion about meat eating from this post as well, lol.
Re: Wow!
"oh you poor thing, maybe you could eat some bugs?"
