My family just reuses family names. I was named after my Ukranian great-grandmother, and have the same name as my aunt, who was also named after her. It just happens to be a common name in English too (and most European languages). If I were a boy, I'd have been named after my great-grandfather and have a rather unusual name for the US.

My mom's name is more common on people younger than her (but still not super-common) and my dad's name was more common 100 years ago (but not super common then, either).
