So I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy

Between this and X-Men Days of Future Past, it's like Marvel WANTS me to be on a permanent '70s nostalgia kick.

(Which doesn't even makes sense because I wasn't even alive in the '70s but whatever.)

I know, right? I need to see it again so bad. Saw it twice, but I'll probably be seeing it at least 5 or 6 times because it is just so good.

It was so awesome! A few days ago I heard a blurb of Gunn on NPR talking about how part of the reason he made it because he was so sick of superhero movies needing to be un-joyful and realistic. I turned it off because I didn't want to be spoiled, but I'll probably look it up later.

Also, and I say this as someone who marginally prefers pre-nu 52 DC to Marvel, I am lol'ing in DC's face right now.

I totally agree with him on that. I'll take the Marvel movies over the DC ones any day. I mean, I like the Batman movies all right, but I rarely watch them. The Dark Night I have to be in the right mood to watch. It is just so much dark on dark.

I love that the Marvel movies as a whole realize they are superhero movies and just have fun with it. Even Cap 2, the darkest of them, still had heart and some humor and wasn't so overpoweringly dark and grim. And Guardians is the perfect example of why the Marvel movies are awesome.

What make Guardians better for me than the rest of the MCU.

Guardians understands its completely ridiculous, while the rest of the MCU is still figuring that out.

I'd say it's still 10 times better at that then DC though, what with Grimdark the dead parents and Flying Murderman being their primary focus.

The MCU is very good with not being laughably grimdark, but they did still have a few worries about being 'realistic' that occasionally felt a little silly. Guardians pretty much rendered all considerations of that aspect sort of moot.

Guardians was a hoot. I have to admit I'm not too hyped about the whole 'Thanos and infinity gems' storyline, and Ronan the Accuser was...whatever (Marvel writes incredibly underwhelming villains sans Loki), but I loved the Guardians themselves. This was a hilarious, fun romp across space and we need more films like that. I could spend two hours watching 'The adventures of Rocket and Groot', or Gamora and Nebula's backstory, or so many other things*; these characters have lots of potential.

And tbh, as much as I love The Avengers, I think this might've been more enjoyable to watch. It was just...delightful, every time one of the main characters were on screen. They're so great together, and they've barely just met!

I'm excited to see where this franchise goes.

*Someone's already written a fanfic about Peter trying to teach everyone to dance, and this is now my new head-canon for why Groot was dancing at the end.

Also: dat soundtrack.

It was so much fun, so much.

I loved the characters, and while I do wish there had been more of Nebula I also like that she got away so maybe we can get some more of her in later films, plus I want more of her and Gamora interaction because I have a thing for messed up sibling dynamics.

But really I loved all the main cast, they were wonderful, I knew I would end up liking Rocket best but I still wasn't quite prepared for how much I loved him. And Groot, Groot was brilliant.

I'm gonna have to see about going to see it again I think, which I've only done for two Marvel movies so far(even if I do love the rest of them).
