So by "fandom" do they really just mean things they like a lot?

Yes.

I'm not active in very many...really in any right now...but I list things I might occasionally talk about if I post, and things I like to talk to other people about. I probably viewed art/read fic for it at some point too, if it's a thing that I like.

I love having multiple canons and universes floating around in my head at once. I like making crossovers, drawing parallels, categorizing characters, etc. It's really fun.
