Re: Kinks/venting thread.

Is it bad that I tend to fantasize from the POV of an OC. Or pair OCs. Or write smut with OCs.

Is that weird? I feel like people would make fun of me for this. Or use this to claim they must be Mary Sues or something. Or say I'm pathetic.

I fantasize as OCs a lot. I like to step into the minds of people with different kinks and try them out. And with the stuff I'm embarrassed about being into, there's a kind of distance that makes me more comfortable when I fantasize about it happening to me as someone else.

Ahh.

I do that too...I frequeently have fantasized from the POV of a straight male OC...sort of...which makes me suspect I'm a two on the Kinsey Scale XD.

and yeah it helps to distance sometimes. It's helped me get over my shyness about having sexual feelings and stuff. I kinda developed that late.

for their record, I'm not really the sort to make fanclubs for my OC or post a bunch of stories that are fantasies and I really only make jokes about the character being cute or pretty or "I'd marry him" jokes with my friends.
and yeah ...I don't do the OTT annoying things

Why would it be bad that you pair OCs or write smut about them? They're your characters. Nobody makes fun of professional writers for making up and pairing their characters. You're doing the same thing except in a borrowed universe (I guess).

Well technically I do have an original universe for them. Though sometimes I do use a borrowed universe and do things that are somewhat OCxCanon-y. Or sometimes Self Inserty.

But....I guess there's nothing inherently wrong with that as long as you're not putting it online and expecting nobody to critique it.

There isn't even anything wrong with putting it online. Dude, this isn't some taboo thing you can't even think about. They're your OCs, you like them with canon characters, relax. This is the most harmless thing you could be worrying about.

Oh...

I always thought CanonxOC was by the way people talked about it one of those things people considered cringeworthy and something you didn't do.

I remember reading someone talk about how even the IDEA of OCxCanon made them gag or whatever.

They're being drama queens, tbh. I'm not saying that everyone SHOULD like it, but fandom is full of much worse things than OcxCanon that's somehow more acceptable. There's no set way of enjoying a series, and if yours includes making your own character for it, that's perfectly fine. That people find THIS one thing to be the most objectionable, when some fans imagine canon characters being abusers or criminals regardless of the character's actual personality is ridiculous.

For what it's worth, I've seen fanfic and OC blogs get pretty popular. It's not a widespread thing, but it's not like there isn't an audience for it.
