How to turn this 'ship around?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My fandom is slowly dying. All of the good authors have left within the last three years, and the new authors are... not nearly as good to put it bluntly.

The profusion of bad fic on the AO3 for my OTP would seem to be discouraging a lot of fans from continuing in the fandom.

Anyone ever been through this before? Any tips on things a nonny can do to turn a fandom around? Barring posting fic - my writing is not very good and I would just be exacerbating the problem!

Least you can do: Rec the older, better stuff every opportunity you can get.

Best you can do: Improve your writing skills and post the type of fic you want people to see.

Barring that, yeah, you pretty much get to watch the ship sink.

Sound like good suggestions.

... and so what you can to encourage anyone who is good to stay.

Also - particiapte in fic exchanges, even if only to get the fandom nominated. Sometimes that lures those who have left into writing "just one one" story for the fandom.

I'm really curious. What's your ship?

You could offer to beta for someone if they seem to have some good ideas but struggle with the execution? Even a little help is better than none at all.
