That's true. I think most of it is due to the massive move from multi-cam to single-cam, and the connected change in style generally to be more naturalistic and much faster paced and cinematic. And laugh tracks really don't work with that style at all, they need that bouncy theatrical style to be really effective, and that's out of fashion, and in some ways technologically outmoded (for the time being anyway - maybe it'll change again eventually).
