So a long time buddy of mine went to see a local female comedian, and apparently her entire schtick was about "typical young females" and the ridiculous things they do. And now, he seems to have taken it to heart as gospel (because a woman said it, after all!) and brings it up any time a woman mentions feeling like she's different/out of place in any context. "OH, well- it's because you're not like a *typical* female."

I get that he's trying to be nice in his misguided way, saying that they're special, they're different, it's not that they're bad- it's that "typical females" are just ridiculous/shallow/whatever but GOOD LORD it drives me up the wall. He really thinks he's being complimentary but doesn't realize he's tearing down an entire gender in the first place.

Moreover, I'm rolling my eyes HARD at the female comedian. I mean, I understand that a lot of comedy has to do with pointing out the ridiculous behavior or a person or group- and maybe her act was hilarious, but I can't help thinking that my friend wasn't the only one who came out of that performance with the same mentality. >:(

I don't know man, I think it has to have been brewing before he was exposed to that comedian. Regardless, your friend calls women "females". There is nothing you can do for him now.

Perhaps, but actually looking back at the conversation, he said "young women", so that fault is on me. None of what I said was a direct quote, just paraphrasing.
