Re: Cover letter

Here are some Don'ts.

Don't rely on spell-check alone. That leads to things like the guy who applied to our company who wanted to work in "Pubic Relations."

Don't lie or grossly overstate your abilities. Confidence is great, but if you're right out of college no one is going to believe that you have extensive management experience.

Don't make a salary demand.

Don't include a bunch of irrelevant trivia. If you are applying for a job at a bank, no one cares that you were in Drama Club and your favorite show is Glee.

Don't stress too much over the cover letter. Unless the letter's giving off weirdo vibes, it's just going to get skimmed and filed.
