If you're talking about, like, Hollywood blockbusters specifically, you're probably right, but it's completely apples and oranges. It's like criticizing, I don't know, some dark serious indie drama about the horrors of war for not being as funny as the Fast Show. It's true but it's kind of besides the point.
Fast Show is absolutely fantastic though.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 10:35 am (UTC)(link)THIS! The Fast Show is a big show in UK comedy history, really notable for spawning the trend of super-quick sketches and (along with Vic & Bob) very recurrent catchphrases that heavily characterised the genre after that. Higson and Whitehouse are also huge figures in comedy. It's, like, one of the least obscure sketch comedies we've ever had XD

still, not many romances tackle the same sorts of subjects they did (class barriers, repressed homosexuality, mental health issues etc) while still being, y'know, funny. but that's just a testament to how great the show was!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 07:52 am (UTC)(link)I found it a touching story the first few times I saw it, but it is comedy, and I found it a bit obviously done on repeat viewings.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)I do agree that there is a lot of sweetness in Ted and Ralph.
