While I don't really think it's a fair comparison to make, I do agree with you.

If you're talking about movies made in Hollywood in general, I think I just disagree.

If you're talking about, like, Hollywood blockbusters specifically, you're probably right, but it's completely apples and oranges. It's like criticizing, I don't know, some dark serious indie drama about the horrors of war for not being as funny as the Fast Show. It's true but it's kind of besides the point.

Fast Show is absolutely fantastic though.

Is it obscure? I don't think it's obscure. I know it after all. I loved it and canon slash is a huge plus. Nice screencap you used here, OP.

Is it obscure? I don't think it's obscure.

THIS! The Fast Show is a big show in UK comedy history, really notable for spawning the trend of super-quick sketches and (along with Vic & Bob) very recurrent catchphrases that heavily characterised the genre after that. Higson and Whitehouse are also huge figures in comedy. It's, like, one of the least obscure sketch comedies we've ever had XD

Didn't know we had this many Brits on FS tbh! Was pitching my secret for what I thought was a mostly American audience. Don't know whether it was big over there or not?

Huh, I didn't mnow this! I think it deserves the fame. Another well known sketch show, I think, is A Bit of Fry & Laurie.

Humanity = ugly suits and bad hair. You're right, OP.

ahh ted and ralph, what sweethearts! well, hollywood movies don't often make me cry whereas the end of season three of the fast show did, the show which simultaneously contains multiple gags centred entirely around the word 'arse', so i sort of agree with you, although the two mediums are too different in styles of presentation to really offer an entirely accurate comparison

still, not many romances tackle the same sorts of subjects they did (class barriers, repressed homosexuality, mental health issues etc) while still being, y'know, funny. but that's just a testament to how great the show was!

Ralph loves Ted. Ted loves Ralph, but not in that way (sorry, sir).

I found it a touching story the first few times I saw it, but it is comedy, and I found it a bit obviously done on repeat viewings.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah mate, they end up together. Or they at least that's what Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson said about the original ending.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You're wrong anon, Ted and Ralph ended up together in the show!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
you sound american

I saw a Ted and Ralph sketch recently, and it was so brilliantly uncomfortable I could barely watch. Sheer perfection. Nice secret, OP. I don't think it really needs to be a secret.

The fast show is mainstream, not obscure. Certainly in Britain anyhow.

I do agree that there is a lot of sweetness in Ted and Ralph.
