Hmm, I absolutely agree that "murder porn" is a partof it, especially stylisticvally.

But...there's so much more top it. I find the psychology of it fascinating (and let's not go into if it's realistic or not, but it's fascinating nonetheless).

I found Will's unraveling to be amazingly portrayed (up to uncomfortably so, as someone who once came unraveled).

And the characters...I mean, sometimes you were watching 4 people interact, and could be highly aware of the fact none of them were normal , and not in the tumblr snowflake way - no, it actually had people with severe issues trying to be functional (with each other), and to me that was peretty much the best part.

The murder porn is actually the part I care about least; I just love the acting and the complex, fucked up characters. (Of course, because of who the characters are and how the show is shot you need that murder porn, but... Even when Hannibal and Will are sitting in Hannibal's office having a conversation the show is riveting.)

Even when Hannibal and Will are sitting in Hannibal's office having a conversation the show is riveting.

I often said that I would happily watch the whole hour of the two of them just sitting there talking to each other, close ups on their faces so you could see each little twitch and reaction.

I would watch that show as well. Some episodes it feels like that IS half of what goes on, and I don't mind one bit.

And the costumes! Don't forget the costumes and the sets! (I especially like Lecter's office)

But the characterization and the acting on this show are superb. And the psychology of it. I totally think the actors should get nominations. And while there is a lot of gore, it is stylistic and well done.

I was always super impressed with Hugh Dancy because from the very beginning, even when he stepped into a murderer's mindset, you could still see Will's vulnerability beneath and that blew my mind. He deserves every award, tbh.

Well. Murder porn, yes, but it's exceptionally beautiful and deeply horrifying murder porn with a surprising depth of psychology running through it, so there's also that.

Considering the other things that get nominated for emmys, I don't think it's outrageous for the Hannibal fandom to want them to get awarded.

I like the series, it can be a bit slow at times but I think it's a little more then murder porn.

Murder porn is accurate. And it's good porn too. They are seriously cool-looking dead bodies and something I would imagine out of a Junji Ito story.

afaik Emmys(ies?) and nominations are good for plugging things even if they're already popular. I tune out and blacklist "emmy*" on tumblr because I just don't understand the importance of award shows otherwise, so the whinging about a fan favourite thing not being acknowledged by one makes no sense to me.

Really. It's beautiful murder porn, and almost every complaint I saw about the lack of nominations included "Seriously, not even a nomination for the cinematography?"

Those scenes are like ten percent of the show, though, and you'd be hard pressed to establish that these people live in a very strange universe where murderers regularly construct artistic tableaux and there's this satan figure who loves doing/seeing/talking about/manipulating others into theatrical murder-art without actually showing any of it. It's not just fandom that thinks it deserves Emmys or whichever other award is on offer at the time, it's a very highly critically acclaimed show. I just feel like you're coming from an extremely dated view of horror as automatically subpar and not capable of being part of legitimately good material when that's not the case. The Emmys regularly nominate things like True Blood and American Horror Story. They're not above gore.

I wish Hannibal and its fandom would just fuck off already.

I don't watch it, but I don't understand your assertion.

If you are saying the acting, writing, directing, etc. are not good enough for Emmy nominations, then say that. If you're saying because of it's genre or the gratuity of the gore, it's not worthy of Emmy nominations, well, I would have to point out Dexter, True Blood, and True Detective to name a few.

Aww, I like the look of them, but I tend to like anatomical art and such too.
