See, I hated them in movie 2 for a different reason entirely. It was because of the "SEE SEE?! AREN'T THEY JUST SO TOTALLY BESTIES NOW?! THEY ARE, TOTES DESPITE NOT SHOWING AN OUNCE OF CHARACTER GROWTH THAT EXPLAINS THE TOTALLY-AWESOME-BESTIES THAT THEY ARE."

Instead, we, supposedly get that growth in a video game. A video game. A. Video. Game. One that barely sold well at that. BC

Fucking pissed me OFF, especially since, about a year after the first film came out, the writers had mentioned more Bones and Kirk friendship development...

So fucking bitter over that. I still like the movie for other reasons, but the who treatment of the Trio friendship was a fucking pile of shit.

Yep. It's that game. I sorta played it, it was ok, but also very...meh. Standard move game fare.

See, I thought the whole point of the movie was that they were realizing that they actually do care about each other. The 2009 movie I thought was about them going from hating each other to respecting each other. STID, then, was about Kirk trying to be a good captain and reach out to Spock. And them realizing that they do care about each other. I thought it worked in some ways -- with Kirk taking Spock's advice about Harrison, Kirk confessing that he didn't know what he was supposed to do, then Spock realizing that he does care more than he thought. I thought there was a nice progression.

Although I will fully agree with you that I was PISSED at how Bones was handled in that film. He hardly had anything of substance to do. The one scene I like was when he confronted Kirk after Pike died, but nothing came of that...

I don't know…I liked the Kirk and Spock moments in STID. It was about the only thing I enjoyed truthfully.

I can see the points, but they still screamed way too try hard to sell a "friendship" that seemed to have happened off screen and it just didn't sell for me. Its why I cried hardest at Kirk's "death" when we saw Bones' and his reaction. I didn't buy Spock's...

To be completely honest, one of the reasons Spock's reaction works so well for me is that it reads as though he only realizes he loves Kirk as Kirk dies. I know that doesn't work for a lot of people, but it did for me.
