I take that back after reading upthread about the almost complete lack of features, lol. Sims 1 basegame was absolutely amazing compared to that. It's mainly the lack of toddlers, the tiny neighborhoods and the simplified personalities that made me think of that, and just the vibe I get of it as a huge step backwards. It seems like something for very small children. The new CAS is interesting and all, but they seem to think it's so utterly amazing that it won't matter that you can't even have content as basic as a dishwasher, which is hilarious to me. And no ghosts for the first time ever, what the hell. It would be great for people who just like to create sims and not do much with them, I guess.

A step backwards is exactly what it feels like. And I don't think that's their intention...but it's the result.

I've read that the new build mode is amazing. And...that's about the only thing they've actually improved on. I kinda want to toy around on TS4 build mode for a while, but like hell am I dropping $70 or whatever on a game just for that.

Also, what do you mean by simplified personalities? I'd heard that they're actually supposed to be more emotionally complex...did that not work out?

Last I heard was that you start out with something like two or three traits and it adds a few later depending on play style or what have you. I just like picking everything out in advance in Sims 3 and seeing how that combination affects their lives and moods. I always add a fun flaw, heh. I don't 100% understand the emotion system and how it's supposed to be so much different or better than getting moodlets from whatever is happening, though.
