The question is: are the snowy pines a hint or not.?

[personal profile] peablossom 2014-08-07 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Due South related?

I was thinking Fargo until OP said 4 years ago.

Same. (Though I suppose it could still be Fargo because of the film.)

I thought 'Frozen' and then I thought 'Fargo' and then I thought 'I have no damn clue'

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yume Nikki? It looks kind of like the snow realm.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing it's the Glee fanfic Dalton.

1. Hugely popular. Author hasn't written anything since.
2. Populated with OCs, with one character pulled from canon to be put into a stupid world.
3. The fanfic features a stupid snowstorm, which might explain the trees.

Same Anon

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It was also written 4 years ago.

what character is "decently developed" on glee? santana but just barely.

dalton?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So... the character gradually changing is what makes them OOC? Isn't that a part of character development?

Or is it that they're acting weird for no real reason (other than for the author's own entertainment)?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"So... the character gradually changing is what makes them OOC?"

Er, no. Reread the secret. The OP says the character is getting more OOC, but the author explains the OOCness as "character development".

It's hard to be certain from the way the secret is worded. But there is some difference between a character changing from actual character development and a character just becoming more and more OOC and the author claiming it's character development.

Me, I'd probably have to have a look at it to make an actual judgement because this easily could be just a person with a grudge. But it could also be legit.

Just saying there is a difference and when you've read enough fanfic it's usually apparent which one the author is doing when you're reading.

My first thought was Embers(the writing style of the secret reminded me of this one troper who had a SERIOUS hateboner for it), but that one took five years to finish, and Vathara's done other stuff since then.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
My first thought was Embers too, though I think it had all the main characters in it instead of one.

It still shared the problems the secret describes tho.

My immediate thought was Leave No Soul Behind, which fits the timeline if not the exact description (assuming the picture is to throw us off the scent).

Prolific!anon from yesterday, is this you?

I dunno. If you have a character go through a lot of stuff, it seems reasonable that their character changes - especially if it's a younger character growing older. I wouldn't say that's a huge mark against an author on its own.

Depends, though. There's the kind of character development where you wouldn't have imagined the character developing that way, but you feel it's believable that given what the fic author has put him through, he'd turn out like that, or at least that it's believable enough that you'd go with it.

Then there's the kind where you could never see the character turning out like that in a million years, regardless of what happened to them.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE FIC/FANDOM IS!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously, if all those people are still talking about that fic four years later, it means it really speaks to them or it's very well crafted, despite of it being OOC (which, to be honest, seems pretty doubtful, given how OP seems like a very unreliable witness).

OP sounds butthurt.

Which is pathetic too.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
You know why the author can't move on from the fic, OP? It's because people like it and are still talking about it. Shit, even you're still talking about it, and you apparently hate it.

Until you can get over it, don't get on other people for not being able to.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, there is no accounting for people's tastes. See Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey...
