For the flats, you could try to stretch them a bit. I bought some shoes that were tight on the widest part of my foot. I put on some heavy socks, put the shoes on and then blasted them with hot heat from the hair dryer while standing up. It stretched them enough that they're comfortable to wear now. There's also the freezing water trick that I've used too that worked, but I found heat was more effective.

... Huh. I've never heard of either of these tricks but now I'm going to have to research them and try them out. If this would work it'd be wonderful because I adore the look of these flats but they're tight across the widest part of my foot, too. Thanks nonny, you might have helped a lot!
