It's more or less the same situation that Sansa was in WRT her dad getting killed, in a way. Both of them were little kids, whose loved ones were being threatened by Tywin Lannister, and faced with the political, military, and economic force he commanded, and more broadly the whole political and social order of the realm, of course neither of them were able to do anything.
