It's kinda sad when someone considers RECOVERY from a disorder (or big steps made in defiance of it) is considered "offensive".

Let me tell you a thing. growing up my brother had a fear of heights. he decided that he didn't want his fear to control him and did stuff like skiing and roller coasters. He did all this stuff and got accustomed to situations so he wasn't as scared anymore. Would people consider that "offensive"?

I would like it if people didn't act like that's a universal cure. I force myself to do a lot of things I'm scared of but the fear is still there and in some cases it's only getting worse.

Plus some people go out of their way to present people with things they're scared of and act like they're doing them a favor because of a misunderstanding of behavioral therapy.

But the idea that it's possible to treat a mental illness and recovering from it is a very good thing shouldn't be offensive.

Ah. I'm sorry I didn't mean to make it sound like "this is what you should do"

Uh yeah...that shouldn't be done by unauthorized people without consent. That's not helping.

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

Oh no, it's fine. That's just a pet peeve of mine and I have a kinda kneejerk reaction.

Partly I'm just bitter that all my forcing myself to do things that terrify me hasn't paid off the way everyone acts like it's supposed to.

Ah

*hug* Maybe something different will work for you.

I confess I also have a fear of heights and ...well I deal with it differently and there have been times it caused me trouble. If it weren't for my fear I'd still have a job at Walmart. And I'd be able to go down the down escalator.

My fear of heights is one of the ones I just ignore because I have no need to get rid of it at this point in my life. I have to get past so many fears to live my life; I don't see any reason to push myself harder than I have to. But sometimes I feel like there's so much pressure to face all of them head-on, regardless of how much they actually interfere with my life.

Ahhh.

Well I don't think you should be forced to "get over them" especially if you don't feel ready.

No one should be forced to do stuff if they don't feel comfortable.
