Let me tell you a thing. growing up my brother had a fear of heights. he decided that he didn't want his fear to control him and did stuff like skiing and roller coasters. He did all this stuff and got accustomed to situations so he wasn't as scared anymore. Would people consider that "offensive"?

Plus some people go out of their way to present people with things they're scared of and act like they're doing them a favor because of a misunderstanding of behavioral therapy.
But the idea that it's possible to treat a mental illness and recovering from it is a very good thing shouldn't be offensive.

Uh yeah...that shouldn't be done by unauthorized people without consent. That's not helping.
Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.

Partly I'm just bitter that all my forcing myself to do things that terrify me hasn't paid off the way everyone acts like it's supposed to.

*hug* Maybe something different will work for you.
I confess I also have a fear of heights and ...well I deal with it differently and there have been times it caused me trouble. If it weren't for my fear I'd still have a job at Walmart. And I'd be able to go down the down escalator.

Well I don't think you should be forced to "get over them" especially if you don't feel ready.
No one should be forced to do stuff if they don't feel comfortable.
