And you sound sentimental and silly. What's wrong with wanting to judge on talent? You think the sob story should be the decider? Please.

No, I don't think the sob story should be the decider, and I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to judge on talent. What I think sounds terrible is refusing to support someone because they have a sob story. It's really dismissive and lacking in empathy, and...it isn't really judging based on talent either, is it? It's not really any different from supporting the person with the saddest story.

For me at least, it's less that they have a sob story, more that they're constantly attempting to exploit their sob story for pity votes. That alone makes them unlikeable.

Though I'll also never root/vote for a pop singer or a child on AGT no matter what their talent is like, so.
