Aw, it sounds cute, though.

This. We were all goofy little shits at thirteen, you were just an adorably goofy little shit. :)

Aw, don't feel bad! I genuinely grinned when I read her name; I thought it sounded like a pretty neat idea. If you like creating OCs you should do so, regardless whether it's for fanfics or not.

You don't need to feel bad! I think every writer/artist in the world started out by copying their favorite media before they began finding their own original style. If it makes you feel any better, I wrote a rip-off of the Powerpuff Girls called the Lightning Bolt Girls when I was eight years old. It was hilarious.

Away nonny, you're not alone and you needn't feel bad. Lots of people start off where you did, it's perfectly normal.

Hey, OP, we all did things at 13 that make us cringe when we remember them. Don't let it hold back your creativity now.

That sounds cute as heck though. And anyway, pretty much everyone who writes goes through some phase of creating terribly-written, overpowered Sues with crazy names. I've made more than one ill-considered OC myself. It's part of how you practice to become a better writer and make better characters!

Also, I'll let you in on a secret: non-fandom OCs can be terrible too. It's not just a fanfic problem. It's just easier to create a Sue in a pre-existing universe, where there are already rules in place for them to break.

It's not even just a matter of practice, there's something fun about coming up with crazy stuff for the heck of it to amuse yourself, for wish-fulfilment, or just mucking around. There's something to be said for the pure joy of it.

Of course if you're like me you then spend a late night writing said crossover crack-fic of doom and questionable quality... ;)

Also true! Some of the best times I've ever had were in writing absolute nonsense for the fun of it.

Omg, Reanimator! Combs! Shran! <3 I don't know anything about OCs but using an established canon for this seems easier than doing a worldbuilding.

OP, Lovecraft himself had a self-insert character, whom he made a recurring character in his stories. A little girl making genderswapped versions of this character (who was also a parody of Frankenstein anyways) is totally normal and even awesome. I actually think such a character would fit.

...When you get down to it, it occurs to me that my first fandom OC was basically this only worse. I used to make up Knight Rider stories with my brother as a kid, using his Matchbox cars to zoom around and do crazy car stunt scenes, and the adventures we made up involved Michael Knight's friend Michael Dae, and his cousin Michelle Nuun.

...Yep. I believe Dae drove a yellow car and Nuun had a bright red one.

...those names are GENIUS.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-15 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's awesome and you should feel awesome.
