It irritates me to no end when people say things like "If you DON'T post about this it's because you don't care and you're privileged enough to ignore it!!!!!"

I appreciate people who spread information about important issues, that doesn't mean that I have to do it or that I don't care because I'm not sharing on my online blog. There are unfortunately several horrible things that happen around the world each day, sometimes I'd rather post something funny on my blog so I don't have to be in the deepest pit of my depression all the time.

Nine times out of ten, I think the people who say that just want the reblogs more than anything else.

Or; how to automatically make me not share THAT particular post, and go find one that presents facts without wheedling.

AYRT. I'm also more likely to share something if it appears to have more straight facts and less annoying comments from tumblr users (the only time I share comment strings is if someone actually corrected misinformation from before.)

I agree. I don't see why everyone's blog has to be a news station. I go to tumblr to relax and chill out. Sometimes I've overwhelmed by something going on and I just want to escape.

I like to reblog things to help out, but I also like to make my blog filled with things that are calming or cheer me up. That's why there's so much writing and food stuff.

Also sometimes I'm afraid that I might say something wrong and offend people anyway.

I don't blame anyone for not wanting to spend their off hours arguing with people online, that's partially why I keep my blogs pretty tame myself.

Plus tumblr spreads around A LOT of wrong information. I generally like to wait until I know a story is legit before I put it on my blog. I've even had to correct stories myself before, and I really don't like doing it but man some people on tumblr really don't have great reading and comprehension skills.

Yeah.

Especially since recently I have personal life stuff coming up I don't want anxiety over that weighing me down at my new job.

Plus tumblr spreads around A LOT of wrong information.

The old saying that a lie can get halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get it's boots on is especially true on Tumblr.

I do like to spend my free time arguing and I still don't always want to post stuff. Misinformation, limited time, avoiding spamming, etc.

These days, I no longer even take the "you're ignoring this because you're privileged to not care" argument seriously, anymore. Spreading awareness is only as good as the action it generates. I think somewhere between constructive criticism on a major political organization's new policy to registering people to vote - y'know, that thing that actually changes laws and law-makers? - I've had at least as much impact on real world social justice and politics as around a hundred rebloggers on Tumblr.

I hate that, too. That's just not how I choose to use tumblr, for reasons that have more to do with the format of tumblr than anything else. I'd prefer to spread information and show support in other spaces, and separately from the bouncy castle of escapism that is fandom (for me).

That reminds me of those Facebook posts that say if you really care you'll share, or that the person you're supposed to share it from will "know who their real friends are" (really???).

I'm surprised this is an unpopular opinion.

Oh god, anyone saying "know who their real friends are" just screams emotional blackmail to me and I just can't deal with people like that.

I think for the most part it's people who copypaste statuses or share images and don't stop to think about the ramifications of what it's saying. They're not horrible people and they don't actually think that way. I stolidy ignore those posts because they don't deserve any attention (if it were a close friend I might make a comment pointing out how stupid it is). If, on an off chance, someone ACTUALLY decides to get offended that I didn't respond to that post, then I have no regrets because you're right, it is emotional blackmail, it's toxic, and I don't want to deal with it. (That has never happened, though. Because of course the people who post that stupid shit doesn't take it seriously.)

Not to mention how patronizing some of those are! Every April at least one person on my FB posts about how all autistic kids are suffering little angels, and if I were a truly good person I'd share the sentiment. Just stop it. My autistic friends would never speak to me again if I shared that bullshit.
