Is tumblr supposed to do this?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-14 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
So I just tried posting something on my new tumblr, tagging it with the fandom and so on. But it doesn't actually show up on the tags page, i.e. tumblr.com/tagged/fandomnamehere! Is that normal? I mean, maybe it doesn't show up because it's my own post, but then I tried tagging it with some more obscure stuff (it's a pretty popular fandom) and it DID show up on those tag pages!

WHAT IS GOING ONNNNNNN

Please help me FS! ;_;

Make sure you're got the display filtered to "Recent" posts rather than "Most Popular", which is the default. Other than that... dunno. Is your fandom tag actually moderated?

I'm honestly not sure how to do that BUT I'm pretty positive it's already like that. New posts show up at the top and everything.

As for whether or not it's moderated, I have no clue. I wasn't aware that was even a thing! I dunno though, I sorta doubt it...? It's not really the sort of fandom that has a lot of questionable content posted or whatever.

As I understand it, Tumblr only puts posts in their first five tags. So, for example, if your post is tagged #apples #bananas #carrots #durians #eggplants #figs #grapes, it won't show up in the #figs tag or the #grapes tag but it'll show up in the other ones. Not sure if that's your problem, but it might be.

Also, they only show popular posts, unless you've got the browser extensions to turn it off installed. That might also be the problem.

Hope this helps!

I think that did it! I had six tags in total, and the fandom tag was actually the very first one. But I tried deleting all the tags except two, and now it actually shows up! Screw the other tags, I guess, I don't wanna risk messing it up, haha. Thanks a million!

Erm. Doubt the tags were the problem. Chances are you just had to wait for it to show up in the tags.

Yeah, maybe. I just think it'd be a strange coincidence that it worked RIGHT after I did that, though.

Sometimes Tumblr just screws up. I once posted something and it didn't post in the tags, even though it was in the first five tags and everything.

If it's a huge fandom, it is likely that your post is way down the page because people post to that tag so frequently that everything goes by so fast. I find really huge tags are fairly useless because hundreds of things are being posted every minute, so your post will likely get lost in the crowd.

It would have to be an original post and not a reblog, too.
