Did you crash your car into a bridge, or do you carve coffins all day? :P

I wish it was either of those.

I'm just chill most of the time and everyone seems to care so much when *things* happen. Like, why do you have to get so worked up? It's only [insert whatever here].

For example, when bad things happen to characters or exciting events happen. I'm sad and happy, just not to the extent I see most people.

For me, it depends on the thing. Some things, I agree with you, other things, I worry about the broader implications. (i.e. 50 Shades of Grey may just be a bad BDSM story, but it does have a scary implication of people thinking toxic BDSM practices are normal and healthy, so I get worked up about it).

I mostly meant about benign things. As for those others? I care in a way. I'm just not emotionally invested in it to the same level. I only ever get kind of emotional investment in very, very specific situations.

That said, I can understand being invested in something with ramifications like the one you listed.

For 'more benign things'...I'm never quite sure if people are actually that emotional, or just having fun over-reacting and being over-emotional. I know one of my friends cried watching How to Train Your Dragon 2, so I guess some people can be emotionally affected by the media pretty easily. Online, though, I think a lot of it isn't actual investment so much as entertaining hyperbole.
