I understand that OT3 doesn't mean infidelity because it's mutual between all parties. Anyway, I totally agree with you. Why can't a person just have a platonic dynamic (or simply be friends) with two other people who happen to be a couple? Instead of resorting to a love triangle or some kind of orgy.

Also, it really depends on context and how people write the OT3.
