Inappropriate reactions to bad news

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by 7. I don't mean times you heard someone died but were underwhelmed, I mean being sad or scared but responding in ways that might suggest otherwise, or just didn't make any sense.

Slightly tangential. I always, and I mean always, get the words 'birthday' and 'funeral' mixed up. It is INCREDIBLY awkward.

On 9/11 when the towers were first hit and no one really knew what was going on, my first thought was "death eaters." Not in a jokey way, it just popped in my head. I was so irked with myself for that...

Not really inappropriate, but the day I learned my friend died I sang the Hebrew song that was in The Prince of Egypt... Neither mg friend or I are Jewish, it just came to mind.

I made a secret here right after the Dark Knight Rises shooting about how while the news was horrifying, a part of me was like, "maybe we can get more simultaneous home and theater releases of movies now!"

I got severely dogpiled.

Appropriately so.

Well according to some of my family, my reaction to 9/11 was inappropriate because I didn't cry and waited until it was almost my bedtime to say anything about being afraid.

That's not an inappropriate reaction. That's called delayed reaction and perfectly appropriate.

Generally when I am uncomfortable or scared I have like...a fear grin. Sort of crooked with big eyes.

Bubbline un-canoned

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard about the VA tweet this afternoon, about how she just made up the 'used to date thing' and people shouldn't take her so seriously. I know it's awful, but I just found it to be really funny. :x

Whoa, I missed the whole thing. Synopsis?

I'm not sure that tweet was so definitive--we don't even know she was referring to the Bubbleline thing. That, and the tweet saying she made it up got erased.

It got deleted because of all the "you're a homophobe!' comments she was getting. What else would she be referring to? Plus there have been comments before by people who worked on the show about how they never even thought of it before, and that it was just all fan creation stuff.

Here ya go: http://i58.tinypic.com/sq2smv.png

It got deleted thirty minutes later because of the huge backlash she got. I mean, really people? The network that cancels shows because they have more girl viewers than boy viewers is really going to make the first ever canon lesbian relationship in a kid's show? Plus her excuse? That 'lol it's because it's illegal in other countries!" was so obviously a joke. Hell, it's pretty much taboo in this country. What makes people think some middle eastern country banning homosexuality would be the reason it could never be canon?

"The network that cancels shows because they have more girl viewers than boy viewers"

I've never heard of this. Can you elaborate?

DA

Young Justice was cancelled because it got more female viewers than male ones iirc.

I laugh quite often, because I will momentarily find the thought of a world where such a bad thing happening absurd enough to seem humorous.

I tend to cry when I'm angry. It is really annoying. Everyone tends to go all O you pour dear on me when I'm about 5 seconds of punching people.

I tend to nervously laugh at bad news. Not all the time, I know when it would not be appropriate. Depends on the news as well.

Ugh. The worst one in recent memory was my reaction on hearing a friend's dad had cancer.

What I meant to say was, "It's good they caught it early." What I actually said was, "Good."

Said friend was (rightly so) much too furious for me to even explain myself properly afterward.

Aw. :/ Did she ever let you explain?

Yeah, after a few hours of being really mad and not talking to me I eventually got to tell my side of the story.

I am apparently a caustic callous bitch because my RW grief did not entirely consume me.

When I was a kid in elementary school my art teacher's son died in a car accident. He was 15. I heard about it from someone before the official announcement on the school news. Something distracted me right as the announcement was made and I giggled. It looked like I was laughing at the bad news and someone called me out on it. I felt really stupid and even though that was over a decade ago I kinda wish I'd not been so randomly disrespectful even if it was on accident.

When my grandfather (my mother's father) died, I was pretty much "Meh" about it. We were having a garden party and my mother returned from the nursing home with the news. I was feeling very sorry for her, but was pretty numbed to the idea of him being dead, despite having loved him quite a lot. I think it was because since he'd gone to the nursing home, his mental state had been declining and he just sort of ... gave up. We visited him a lot so I basically said my goodbyes some time before he finally died - I had been expecting it for a while by then. So when the news arrived, it wasn't really a shock.
My mother accused me of not caring that he'd died afterwards.
